For years, working Americans have struggled to afford the life-saving medication they need thanks to outrageously high prescription drug prices – especially our seniors. I firmly believe that no one should have to choose between paying for their medication and putting food on the table.

That’s why since I first was elected to Congress, I have always fought to lower the costs of prescription drugs, and why I voted to pass the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). This monumental legislation finally empowered Medicare to negotiate drug prices for medications seniors spend the most on, and capped out-of-pocket costs at $2,000 per year, including for drugs like insulin which is now capped at $35 per month.

As a result, tens of thousands of Massachusetts' residents have seen their prescription drug costs significantly lowered. And this is just the start. Medicare only just began negotiating prices this February. As negotiations continue for more and more drugs, we will see prices continue to fall.

Friend, this is a huge step forward to alleviating the burden on working families trying to pay for the medication they need while trying to make ends meet. But this was only made possible thanks to the leadership of President Biden and my Democratic colleagues in Congress. Not a single Republican voted to pass the IRA.

That’s why it’s vital that Democrats win big in November so that we can protect the progress we made and continue to lower costs for working families. The GOP only holds a one-seat majority in the House, so we need to ensure we hold every blue district if we’re going to have any chance of flipping the chamber.
