Dear Friend,

We hope you’re faring as best as you can during these difficult times.

Here at Progressive Maryland, we’re fortunate to have a wonderful community of members, leaders, allies, staff and activists who have joined together in this past year to help us organize for a compassionate, comprehensive, and culturally competent response to the pandemic; and for fundamental changes in our justice system.

We see a new era along with new opportunities dawning in this new year. There’s an opening for political transformation, especially if we elect more of our own to state and local office. Our vision is to have more of the seats on County and City Councils, in the General Assembly, on School Boards and Central Committes held by women, BIPOC residents, queer folks, union members, people with disabilites, and working class Marylanders. We started a program last year to help us begin realizing this vision. It’s called the Maryland People’s Leadership Institute.

If you have thought of running for office or running campaigns as a way to build more power for the progressive movement we invite you to consider applying for this exciting program. Follow the link to the 2021 program overview and application here.

Here’s what one of our 2020 alumna said about the Institute:

"I had no idea what it took to run a political campaign. Going through the MPLI, I gained great insight into that process."

This program will help prepare, train, and provide guidance to activists who want to run for office or would like to lead candidate and voter engagement campaigns in future election cycles. Especially in 2022. We welcome applicants from our ranks and those of our allies and affiliates.

Applications, here, are due by February 28. Another 2020 cohort member told us:

“I made long lasting friendships with amazing people who want to change the world as much as I do.”

Thanks for your consideration. Stay safe and be well.

With appreciation,
The PM team
