Caddo Mounds State Historic Site Reopening
Following the 2019 destruction of the site's museum by a tornado, Caddo Mounds State Historic Site [ [link removed] ] will celebrate its official reopening on Saturday, May 18. The ribbon-cutting ceremony commences at 11:30 a.m. with speakers reflecting on the importance of restoring the site and the resiliency of the Caddo Nation. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the new $2.5 million visitor center and reconstructed grass house and participate in various outdoor activities.

Mason County has a vibrant past filled with tales of frontier settlers, Native American tribes, and legendary figures. Experience this history firsthand by staying in charming accommodations steeped in local lore with the Texas Historical Commission’s Historic Overnights program.
