Emilia Sykes Earns Endorsement of Ohio AFL-CIO By Unanimous Vote

President Burga: Endorsement “a Testament to Her Dedication to Improving the Lives of Working People…”
AKRON, OH — Today, Emilia Sykes for Congress announces that the Ohio AFL-CIO endorsed the re-election of Congresswoman Emilia Sykes by a unanimous vote of the Executive Board.

"The unanimous decision of the Ohio AFL-CIO Executive Board to endorse Congresswoman Emilia Sykes’ re-election is a testament to her dedication to improving the lives of working people in her district," said Ohio AFL-CIO President Tim Burga. "In the past two years Congresswoman Sykes has delivered America's largest investment in infrastructure, capped insulin prices for seniors, secured meaningful federal investments to ensure the 13th District continues to lead the way in polymer innovation and stood on the picket line with union members in their fight for a fair contract. Emilia fights for us in Congress and stands with us at home and we proudly continue our support for her."

"Since her time in the Ohio Statehouse, Emilia Sykes has been a staunch advocate for working families in the greater Akron region. Representative Sykes has earned organized labor’s endorsement and broad support and we will work tirelessly on her re-election bid," said David Prentice, Executive Secretary of the Tri-County Regional Labor Council. "Due in large part to Emilia’s policy work and leadership in Congress, Summit County is seeing positive growth for the middle-class and we need to keep this momentum going."

"Representing the people of Stark County and the 13th District, Congresswoman Emilia Sykes has stood up and delivered for working people and trade unions," said Joe Sterling, President of the Hall of Fame Labor Council. "Representative Sykes is not only delivering unprecedented economic development opportunities for our communities, but she is also ensuring labor's voice is at the table in applying the millions of dollars of federal investment to benefit everyone in Stark County."

“I’m proud to have earned the endorsement of Ohio’s biggest pro-worker organization who fights everyday to ensure our workers are treated fairly and given the respect they deserve,” said Emilia Sykes.
“In Congress, I have fought for higher wages, safer working conditions, and better benefits for workers and I am excited to have the support of the Ohio AFL-CIO in that fight.”

Sykes is serving the second year of her first two-year term representing Ohio’s 13th Congressional District. Her top priority is making government work for her district. During her tenure, she has brought back more than $100 million in federal dollars to to improve public transportation and infrastructure in Northeast Ohio, including $500,000 for the North Canton Arrowhead Water Well Project, $959,752 for the New Franklin Water and Sewer Project, and $1 million for the Lake Anna Revitalization Project.
