Studies reveal a troubling trend—the rise in demand for commercial sex services surrounding these events. The influx of visitors, all in one place, seeking entertainment increases the risk of exploitation and trafficking. Alongside the huge revenue generated by the sports industry and event sponsors, profits from trafficking at these events is also huge. Traffickers strategically advertise services online and therefore see major events as an opportunity to profit from increased demand, highlighting the exploitation overshadowing the spectacle.
