I want to be completely honest about one thing: it was your activism that compelled the Pennsylvania House to pass the bipartisan House Bill 777[1] (aka the Ghost Gun Bill) last month.

Your relentless advocacy convinced our representatives, including three Republicans, to support this bill which simply requires ghost gun kits to be serialized by manufacturers, and purchasers to pass a background check. In short, it calls on ghost guns to be treated as real guns, because they are real guns.

Gov. Shapiro has stated[2] that he will sign this bill into law as soon as we clear the Senate hurdle. So, naturally, I really want to go for a repeat. Will you take a moment to email your Senator and urge them to call for a hearing on the Ghost Gun Bill? Last month, a town in Bucks County witnessed just how deadly and widely accessible these weapons are.[3] A man in Falls Township used a ghost gun to murder his stepmother, sister, and the mother of his children and then fled to New Jersey in a stolen vehicle, triggering an interstate manhunt. The Township was under lockdown for an entire weekend, canceling their St. Patrick’s Day parade.

No community in Pennsylvania should have to shut down because an untraceable gun fell into the wrong hands. This bipartisan bill is supported by law enforcement[4] and would close a loophole that allows deadly weapons to flow freely into the hands of criminals.

Ghost guns have no place in our Commonwealth – in fact, they’re already banned in thirteen[5] other states. Thanks in no small part to your activism, the House passed House Bill 777, taking the first step toward defining and treating ghost guns as the deadly weapons they are. Now that the bill is in the Senate, we cannot take our eyes off the ball. Will you send your Senator a quick message calling on them to demand a hearing on this critical legislation?
