Just like all other elective medical centers, abortionists need to play by the rules.

"Planned Parenthood is trying to hide the fact that they only do elective, purely voluntary, abortions." —Steve Aden, Chief Legal Officer & General Counsel at Americans United for Life

Elective procedure, essential fight ([link removed][UNIQID])
(World Magazine) Steve Aden, chief legal officer for Americans United for Life, said the 5th Circuit Court is likely to uphold Texas’ right to shutter abortion facilities during the pandemic. He also expects the conservative-majority 6th Circuit Court to do likewise in the Ohio case: “Ultimately, the abortion industry faces an uphill fight.” As Texas officials told the 5th Circuit Court, the COVID-19 pandemic is America’s greatest health crisis in 100 years and puts the state at the “apex of its constitutional authority,” said Aden, which means abortion facilities have little chance of getting special treatment in conservative states. Planned Parenthood only does elective procedures. “They’re being duplicitous,” said Aden. “They’re claiming that it’s a necessary health service, but on the other hand they’re trying to hide the fact that they only do elective, purely voluntary, abortions.”

Amid coronavirus outbreak some red states move to restrict abortion, spurring legal fight ([link removed][UNIQID])
(LA Times) Steve H. Aden, chief legal officer and general counsel at Americans United for Life, which opposes abortion, anticipates the court would allow the state orders to remain in place because the country is fighting a pandemic. “The power of the state to take extreme measures to deal with a health crisis like this is really the apex of its constitutional powers,” he said, citing a 1905 precedent that let states fine or imprison citizens who did not get a small pox vaccine during an epidemic of the disease. “There really isn’t much that a state cannot do to respond to what is truly a health emergency.”

Dr. Chad Pecknold on solidarity amidst pandemic, the nature of the common good, and post-liberal conservatism ([link removed][UNIQID])
(Life, Liberty, and Law) As we live through this time of pandemic in the life of America and the world, many of us find ourselves grappling with questions at the heart of the human experience. What does it mean to live a good life? Am I spending my time in the best way possible? How can I help build a better life for my family, my loved ones, my community? And what does it mean to protect life when all of us find ourselves vulnerable, even powerless? Dr. Chad Pecknold, Associate Professor at the Catholic University of America and Fellow at Catholic University’s Institute for Human Ecology, joins Tom Shakely and Noah Brandt to consider these issues of human life.

We Need to Re-Learn Civility ([link removed][UNIQID])
(AUL) It has become cliché to point to some political move you disagree with and exclaim, “the founding fathers would be rolling in their graves!” The triteness is especially acute as it relates to how we project our politics onto those who came before us. We have a strong inclination to frame Americans of the past, particularly from the founding generation, in angelic terms. Those who fought for our independence and founded a polity based on the consent of the governed could not possibly identify with the low grade, partisan struggles we are dealing with today, right? Well, not quite.

Ten Years after Obamacare, Pro-Life Concerns Are Proven Right ([link removed][UNIQID])
(National Review) Last week marked the tenth anniversary of President Obama’s signing of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The memories of the important political battle over that bill are still fresh in many minds. During 2009 and 2010, pro-lifers provided some of the most vocal opposition to serious flaws of the ACA. In fact, pro-life concerns about the conscience rights of religious employers and taxpayer funding for abortion nearly succeeded in blocking the legislation.
