In 2018, O’Rourke came within less than three percentage points from
defeating Ted Cruz — one of the GOP’s most extreme and controversial
figures.
Since then, Beto has been busy. In late 2019, he launched Powered By
People — a grassroots organization that is partnering with Democratic
candidates up and down the ballot to help win competitive state
battleground districts and focused on building the long-term changes to
the Texas electorate that will outlast any one candidate or campaign
cycle.
