In 2018, O’Rourke came within less than three percentage points from defeating Ted Cruz — one of the GOP’s most extreme and controversial figures.
Since then, Beto has been busy. In late 2019, he launched Powered By People — a grassroots organization that is partnering with Democratic candidates up and down the ballot to help win competitive state battleground districts and focused on building the long-term changes to the Texas electorate that will outlast any one candidate or campaign cycle.

And it's worked, John. We’ve since registered over 250,000 Texans to vote and continue to meet voters where they are — to ensure they understand that their vote is crucial to turning the tide of extremism in the Lone Star State.
We’re in this for the long haul. We know that the steps we take today and over the coming years will continue to have an outsized impact until we ultimately deliver Texas’ 40 electoral college votes to a Democratic nominee for president for the first time since 1976.
