Take action to help workers and families.

We are going to get through the coronavirus outbreak together. If you are experiencing symptoms or are looking for more information, you can visit the website of the CDC or the Illinois Department of Health. We are closely monitoring the situation and its effects on the people of Illinois and our nation as we work together to keep our families and communities safe.

John,

Last week, a record 6.6 million Americans filed for unemployment - bringing the two week total to almost 10 million people. We are facing a major crisis, and I am working closely with my Democratic colleagues in Congress to take immediate action to protect workers and families.

Stand with us and send Republicans in Congress a message. Add your name to demand that all unemployed workers receive the cash payments and health benefits they need to pull through this crisis >>> [[link removed]]

If you have been affected by the crisis, here is some helpful information:

You can file for benefits online through the IDES website [[link removed]]. To avoid any delays in receiving benefits, file a claim for unemployment benefits during the first week you become unemployed.

The CARES Act we passed in Congress expands unemployment benefits. This means workers receiving benefits have an opportunity to get an additional $600 each week until July 31, 2020.

Some individuals who have received their entire 26 weeks of regular unemployment benefits may be eligible for more weeks of benefits under the CARES Act as well.

I will continue to work with my fellow Democrats in Congress to ensure that coronavirus relief and recovery efforts prioritize working people and families - not executives and stockholders. Working families should not have to worry about putting food on the table during this crisis, period.

We must act now - I need your help to keep our movement going strong and stand up for working-class people in Chicagoland and beyond.
