Last week, a record 6.6 million Americans filed for unemployment - bringing the two week total to almost 10 million people. We are facing a major crisis, and I am working closely with my Democratic colleagues in Congress to take immediate action to protect workers and families.

If you have been affected by the crisis, here is some helpful information:

• You can file for benefits online through the IDES website. To avoid any delays in receiving benefits, file a claim for unemployment benefits during the first week you become unemployed.
• The CARES Act we passed in Congress expands unemployment benefits. This means workers receiving benefits have an opportunity to get an additional $600 each week until July 31, 2020.
• Some individuals who have received their entire 26 weeks of regular unemployment benefits may be eligible for more weeks of benefits under the CARES Act as well.

I will continue to work with my fellow Democrats in Congress to ensure that coronavirus relief and recovery efforts prioritize working people and families - not executives and stockholders. Working families should not have to worry about putting food on the table during this crisis, period.
