This weekly digest is a method to communicate updates, initiatives and policy changes from the Aging and Adult Services Division (AASD) and Disability Services Division (DSD) in a simplified way. We send this announcement every week on Tuesdays.

DSD messages

Increased limit to specialized equipment and supplies [ [link removed] ]

* *Audience:* ?Lead agencies, case managers, Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS) data entry staff and other interested parties
* *Effective date:* Jan. 1, 2024
* *Summary:* DHS increased the annual dollar limit for specialized equipment and supplies from $3,909 to $10,000 per waiver year. This change applies to Brain Injury (BI), Community Alternative Care (CAC) and Community Access for Disability Inclusion (CADI) waiver service agreements that begin or renew on or after Jan. 1, 2024.

Temporary SMRT MnCHOICES policy and SMRT ISDS access [ [link removed] ]

* *Audience:* Lead agency staff, assessors, case managers, supervisors and other interested parties
* *Effective date:* Immediately
* *Summary:* SMRT temporarily suspended the policy that lead agencies must complete a MnCHOICES assessment 150 days before the SMRT referral date or schedule a MnCHOICES assessment to occur within 60 days of the referral date.

Community residential services and crisis respite services as foster care placement [ [link removed] ]

* *Audience:* Lead agencies, MnCHOICES assessors, disability waiver case managers, county attorneys and other interested parties
* *Summary:* On March 28, 2024, DHS published a bulletin to clarify when federal and state law considers community residential services and crisis respite services to be foster care placement.
