Team — I know there is a lot of anxiety surrounding the spread of the novel coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, and I want to assure you that I am closely monitoring the risk to our community. 

I’m in regular contact with local health and public safety officials to make sure we’re doing everything we can to protect the health, economic security, and safety of every Brooklynite. My colleagues and I in the House are also hard at work in Washington to ensure Americans get the relief they so badly need. To date, Congress has passed three relief bills, but we know the work will not stop there.

We are all on high alert, and I know that you are worried about your family, your job, and your home. But the best way for us to protect ourselves and our neighbors is to stay informed.

Throughout this crisis, I have been so encouraged by the extraordinary efforts of our first responders, medical professionals, and public health experts. They are doing tremendous work despite shortages in personal protective equipment (PPE) and other necessary supplies.

We’ve all seen the stories on the news and on social media: Medical professionals, sanitation workers, domestic workers, restaurant workers, and others are working day and night to keep us safe despite the personal risks to their health. These folks deserve our immediate support and I will not stop fighting to ensure they get everything they need to weather this crisis safely. And I am grateful to those who have stepped up in our community to support our workers, including our labor unions.

It is more important than ever that we all play our part and practice social distancing. We must do everything we can to stop the spread of this virus and help lower the burden on our healthcare system.
