Just Deeds
The Just Deeds Project

At their April 2 meeting, the Mendota Heights City Council heard a presentation from Two Rivers High School students on the Just Deeds Project - a coalition in the Twin Cities working to raise awareness of racial covenants in property deeds, and encourage property owners to discharge them.

Following the presentation, Council Members joined the coalition in condemning the use of discriminatory covenants, and discharged racial covenants on all city-owned property.

* Property owners are encouraged to join in this effort and use the *University of Minnesota Mapping Prejudice portal [ [link removed] ]* to locate existing covenants in their property deeds.
* The Dakota County Board of Commissioners has exempted property owners from paying a recording fee to file a discharge document, learn more about how to *discharge a discriminatory covenant in Dakota County [ [link removed] ].*

Apply to Be a Firefighter

Firefighters

Over the past 77 years, hundreds of dedicated community members have served as firefighters in Mendota Heights. These individuals save lives and property, comfort others in their time of need, help teach fire safety and more. Some feel called to serve or have a passion for the fire service; others appreciate the teamwork, flexibility, personal development and leadership skills that come with the job ? but all firefighters feel the value of giving back to the community and directly contributing to the safety and welfare of their hometown.

The Mendota Heights Fire Department is now recruiting paid, on-call firefighters. Applications are due May 3, and the next Fire Academy begins in August.

Stop by the Fire Station to learn more at an upcoming information session:
