Friend, there is so much momentum around expanding Berryessa Snow Mountain and San Gabriel Mountains National Monuments!
More than 5,000 people have signed onto our petition asking President Biden to expand Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument in Northern California to protect an additional 3,925 acres, including the Tribal land known as “Molok Luyuk, which has tremendous biodiversity and cultural significance.
And our petition to President Biden to expand San Gabriel Mountains National Monument has nearly 9,000 signatures. This expansion would add 109,000 acres to the existing monument, protecting critical wildlife habitat, a key source of the region’s drinking water, and so much more.
I know petitions can sometimes feel like not enough, but they show the public support behind these causes — so our leaders and partners keep pushing the Biden Administration.
The President can expand these two national monuments with the stroke of a pen, friend. Please tell him to do so swiftly!

Subject: ACT NOW: Tell President Biden to expand these National Monuments
Hi friend,
As an EnviroVoter, you know the importance of protecting and conserving our public lands and natural resources. And you know from my email yesterday that public lands are an effective but underutilized way to address the climate crisis.
So I’ll keep this simple: With the stroke of a pen, President Biden can expand existing national monuments by issuing a presidential proclamation under the Antiquities Act of 1906.
He doesn’t even have to go through the gridlock of Congress!
You kicked off EnviroVoters’ Public Lands Month with a bang yesterday by showing your support for protecting public lands. Now I’m asking you to sign our petition to the Biden Administration urging him to expand Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument and San Gabriel Mountains National Monument ASAP!
Friend, by signing on, your name will be added to a support book with other coalition members, joining thousands of others telling the President that the public want these monument expansions and others across the country.

Expanding Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument, which comprises 330,780 acres along the Northern California coast, would mean more safeguards for Molok Luyuk, lands that are sacred to the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation and critically important to protect in the face of a changing climate.
President Biden issuing a proclamation to protect these lands would create permanent connections between the currently-protected space and other key wildlife corridors for species like tule elk, mountain lions, and black bears, as well as numerous threatened plant species.
Expanding the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument by 109,000 acres would increase equitable access to nature, improve public health, and protect one-third of Los Angeles County’s clean drinking water.
The proposed area serves as a backyard for so many urban and culturally diverse communities — over 18 million people live within 90 miles of it. And as a habitat for countless plants and wildlife, expanding this monument would further preserve biodiversity.
President Obama used the Antiquities Act back in 2014 to designate the San Gabriel Mountains as a national monument in the first place. Friend, now we’re asking President Biden to build on his impressive legacy of conservation by expanding these two incredible monuments, and doing so NOW.
With less than one year left in the President’s first term, time is of the essence.
