Expanding Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument, which comprises 330,780 acres along the Northern California coast, would mean more safeguards for Molok Luyuk, lands that are sacred to the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation and critically important to protect in the face of a changing climate.
President Biden issuing a proclamation to protect these lands would create permanent connections between the currently-protected space and other key wildlife corridors for species like tule elk, mountain lions, and black bears, as well as numerous threatened plant species.
Expanding the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument by 109,000 acres would increase equitable access to nature, improve public health, and protect one-third of Los Angeles County’s clean drinking water.
The proposed area serves as a backyard for so many urban and culturally diverse communities — over 18 million people live within 90 miles of it. And as a habitat for countless plants and wildlife, expanding this monument would further preserve biodiversity.
President Obama used the Antiquities Act back in 2014 to designate the San Gabriel Mountains as a national monument in the first place. Friend, now we’re asking President Biden to build on his impressive legacy of conservation by expanding these two incredible monuments, and doing so NOW.
With less than one year left in the President’s first term, time is of the essence.

Our California leaders are counting on us to mobilize, organize, and build enthusiasm for this environmental effort. That begins with making sure the President knows how important this is to us.
Thank you for being an EnviroVoter, friend.
