But first, a quick story about why Emily’s candidacy is so meaningful — and not just to me:

When Emily and I first met, right-wing politicians could still use the idea of LGBTQ+ people getting married to spread anger and fear.

While we were in college, we saw dozens of states pass gay marriage bans. Without a seat at the table, other people decided what rights we could or could not have.

While it can be easy to become angry and disillusioned, Emily is motivated to make change. She’s committed to bringing the voices of those who are too-often ignored — like queer folks, communities of color, and working-class neighbors — into the halls of power.

After years of work, marriage equality became the law of the land, and Emily and I got married last August!

But the attacks continue. Those same cynical politicians are now using their power to bully queer and trans kids.

We need Emily in Congress: Not just to protect our rights, but to show queer and trans kids and so many others that we ALL deserve a voice and a seat at the table.
