Looking back at 2023: TOA Annual Report
Last year you helped us shift narratives toward justice and opportunity for all! Let’s look back at some of
our 2023 highlights<[link removed]> and celebrate the innovative community we’ve created together. 🤩
In 2023:
📌 We trained hundreds of leaders in the art of storytelling for social change.
📌 We launched the Narrative Innovators Lab to house our signature Communications Institute and Culture & Narrative Fellowship.
📌 We developed new research in community with activists from across the nation to advance positive narratives on immigration and democracy.
📌 We even launched a new website and brand to align with our mission to challenge white supremacy!

Birthing Justice: The Discussion Guide
Welcoming a baby should be a time of joy and excitement, but systemic racism and health inequities make the journey fraught for too many Black mothers in the United States. We partnered with Women in the Room Productions to develop the discussion guide for their feature documentary, Birthing Justice.

The Power of Play with Dr. Tia Smith
Knowledge is a critical tool to advocate for a more just and humane world, but don’t lose sight of the importance of play to sustain ourselves and communicate our vision.
Dr. Tia Smith’s latest blog<[link removed]> details how she and the Women of Wakanda are channeling the historic cultural practice of “playing mas,” or masquerading, to critique colonialism and patriarchy. Check it out and look for space to play in your work!
