Kentucky legislators are attempting to amend the constitution to divert taxpayer money from public schools to private institutions. Sixty percent of our counties don’t even have certified private schools, meaning this move would take taxpayer dollars straight from public schools in rural parts of the state to private schools in the biggest cities.
And in North Carolina, the Republican legislature is pushing a radical voucher plan that lacks income limits, accountability, and safeguards. This scheme could cost the state a staggering $4 billion over the next decade – funds desperately needed to support our public schools fully.
Public education is under attack nationwide, and our Democratic governors serve as the last line of defense in safeguarding our schools.
