Dear Neighbors,

In these past four weeks at the Capitol, my colleagues and I have worked diligently to move legislation through committees and are gearing up for busy weeks ahead on the House Floor. We are building on the historic achievements of last session, advancing legislation that improves the economy for working families, increases access to affordable housing, and makes health care affordable for all Minnesotans.

*Town Hall*

Thank you to all our constituents for taking the time out of your busy schedule to join our town hall meeting last night! Your presence and input are invaluable in shaping our vibrant community.

If you were unable to join us and have questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to my office at [email protected] or call 651-296-8659.

*Housing Bill, HF 685*

The Minnesota House Housing Finance and Policy Committee passed my HF 685 bill with an 8-5 vote on Wednesday, March 6th, 2024. The bill [ [link removed] ] would give individuals and families an equitable opportunity for homeownership in the marketplace by restricting when corporations may purchase single-family homes.

Under the bill, corporate entities would be prohibited from purchasing single-family homes with the intent to turn them into rental properties. There is a persistent trend across the nation of major corporations monopolizing property and gentrifying neighborhoods rich in history and culture. As a result, families are losing affordable housing and inevitably being displaced.

*Almanac Interview*

This past Friday, I had the opportunity to make my first appearance on Almanac! I discussed the importance of homeowner accessibility and affordable housing for all Minnesotans.

If you missed the live show, you can watch the clip here. [ [link removed] ]

*Equity in Place (EIP) Coalition*

I was happy to join the Equity in Place (EIP) Coalition at their press conference this week to advocate for housing policies that will balance the scales for tenants' rights and bring Minnesota in line with the rest of the nation. I am dedicated to strengthening protection rights for renters across Minnesota. That’s why I am the lead author of the 'Just Cause Eviction Protections’ [ [link removed] ] legislation. In my remarks I spoke on the importance of establishing legal grounds for eviction, ensuring landlords can only terminate tenancy for legitimate causes.

*Ramadan Kareem*

Happy Ramadan! To all my neighbors near and far celebrating this holy month, may Allah guide you and your family always and fill your life with prosperity and happiness.

*Local Climate Action Program*

$2.3 million is available to help communities take climate action! The Local Climate Action Program will fund projects that keep our homes safe and loved ones healthy. Nonprofits, local governments, and educational institutions should apply by April 30. [ [link removed] ]

*House Approves 101 Environmental Projects*

Minnesotans take pride in our legacy of environmental stewardship. That’s why I was proud to vote ‘yes’ on legislation [ [link removed] ] to fund 101 projects across our state that protect our wildlife, water, air, and soil.

The funding, which comes from the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund, uses a portion of our state lottery proceeds to ensure our environment and natural resources are protected for generations to come.

In our district, I am happy to share the Shingle Creek Aquatic and Shoreline Habitat Enhancement and North Minneapolis Nature Connection: Storytelling and Leadership Pathways are potential recommendations as grant recipients.
