It’s sometimes referred to as the “Earth’s lungs.”

Now due to warming temperatures, extreme droughts, deforestation and fires, the Amazon rainforest is at risk of releasing billions of tons of carbon into the atmosphere. This would be devastating, exacerbating global warming and further destabilizing all other ecosystems. Every acre of forest we lose makes combating climate change even more challenging.
