The Joint Finance Committee must release $125 million for PFAS remediation

Hi John,

I’m writing to let you know about a promising new development on our efforts to get PFAS funding out the door to impacted communities. Gov. Evers has submitted a new, commonsense compromise to the Joint Finance Committee. Here’s a little background:

As you know, Wisconsinites impacted by PFAS need quick access to financial resources to help ensure the water coming out of their tap is safe to drink. Unfortunately, it’s been nearly eight months since Gov. Evers signed $125 million into the state budget. The Joint Finance Committee has still not released the funds.

You can take action right now by asking your legislators to urge the Joint Finance Committee to release the $125 million in funding for PFAS remediation. Impacted communities can’t wait any longer! [[link removed]]

WRITE YOUR LEGISLATOR [[link removed]]

On Monday, we urged Gov. Evers to veto PFAS legislation Senate Bill 312 [[link removed]]. We fought hard to get this bill to a good place. But, at the end of the day, Republican legislators refused to remove the poison pull that puts polluters before impacted communities.

Meanwhile, the Joint Finance Committee could have released the funds last December, based on a request submitted by Gov. Evers and the hard-working staff at the DNR. But here’s the good news: yesterday, the governor took an additional step to reach a compromise by submitting a new request to Joint Finance that mirrors the grant programs proposed in SB 312 – minus the poison pill.

This is a common-sense compromise that Joint Finance members must support in order to ensure that we can get PFAS funding to impacted communities. Ask your legislator to take the compromise! Sincerely,
Peter Burress
