On March 26, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear the case that could determine the future of medication abortion access nationwide.
Here's what you need to know and how you can help right now:
What's at stake?
Through the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA lawsuit, anti-abortion extremists are seeking to revoke the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) approval of mifepristone, one of two drugs used in medication abortion. The Center for Reproductive Rights and partners have filed an amicus brief noting that other courts have routinely discredited the plaintiff's evidence for lack of scientific integrity.
The plaintiffs have continually relied on "patently unreliable witnesses" and "ideologically tainted junk science" in their rulings.
Ultimately, this case could eradicate medication abortion—even in states where abortion is legal. Blocking access to mifepristone would force all patients to have procedural abortions and inundate clinics. Many clinics are already overwhelmed by the influx of patients from states that have banned abortion.
What is mifepristone?
Mifepristone is a safe and effective drug that has been used by more than five million people in the United States for abortion and miscarriage care since the FDA approved it more than two decades ago. It is also the most common method of abortion in the United States.
What is next?
The U.S. Supreme Court has scheduled oral arguments for this case on March 26. The court will then issue its decision before July 4.

Without medication abortion access, leading medical associations predict that the country's maternal mortality crisis will worsen. We can't let this happen.
