Flavored tobacco products, like Blue Raspberry e-cigarettes, Rocky Road ice cream flavored cigars, and menthol cigarettes are hooking young people and harming the environment. It's time to end this unnecessary harm.

Together with our partners in Maine’s Environmental Priorities Coalition, we are working to address this crisis by supporting LD 1215, “An Act to End the Sale of Flavored Tobacco Products.” 1

Please send a message [[link removed]] to your legislators urging them to vote yes on LD 1215 to protect public health and the environment. This vote could come as early as this week and legislators need to hear from as many of their constituents as possible.

According to the World Health Organization, tobacco products are the most littered item on the planet. They leach harmful chemicals, including residual nicotine, and breakdown into microplastics 2 that contaminate waterways, harm wildlife, and further threaten human health.

This is also a public health and equity issue. Flavored tobacco products are designed to attract and hook young people. Tobacco addiction can lead to a lifetime of health complications including heightened risk of cancer and premature death. 3 And, the tobacco industry's tactics have historically targeted African-American communities through strategic advertising, flavored products like menthol cigarettes, and lower prices, perpetuating health disparities and disproportionately affecting Black youth.

LD 1215 will end the sale of flavored tobacco in Maine and lead to healthier communities and a healthier environment. Tell your legislators to vote yes on LD 1215 [[link removed]].
