On Thursday, Vice Media became the latest digital outlet to shut down, as CEO Bruce Dixon announced that its flagship news website, Vice.com, would cease publication and hundreds of workers would be laid off.
It should be clear to all by now that the for-profit model of journalism is failing and that the news industry's death spiral could bring democracy down with it.
