Hundreds more journalists laid off as Vice.com shutters for good.
Friend,
On Thursday, Vice Media became the latest digital outlet to shut down, as CEO Bruce Dixon announced that its flagship news website, Vice.com, would cease publication and hundreds of workers would be laid off.
It should be clear to all by now that the for-profit model of journalism is failing and that the news industry's death spiral could bring democracy down with it.
That's why it's vital for readers to step up right now and support Common Dreams. Our nonprofit, reader-funded model may be the only thing that keeps quality journalism alive.
Unlike Vice and other for-profit news outlets, we have no corporate executives or venture capitalist snakes getting million-dollar bonuses. We operate on a tight budget, and every dollar our readers donate goes directly to news gathering and publication. That’s why we’re still here while so many others are shutting down.
