Almost 5 years ago, Alexandria questioned Michael Cohen — former personal
attorney and ‘fixer’ for Donald Trump — in her very first committee
hearing as a newly elected Congressmember.

Alexandria used her 5 minutes to grill Cohen carefully about Trump's
finances. At the time, many said that her work opened the door to future
investigations into Trump’s criminal dealings.

They were right: Trump was just ordered to pay a $355 million fine for
fraud damages.

The Attorney General of New York said the years-long investigation only
began because of Cohen's testimony at the hearing.^1

NY Attorney General Letitia James' investigation revealed the former
President and his top advisors routinely found ways to falsely inflate
Trump’s net worth to secure hundreds of millions of dollars in loans
between 2008 and 2018.

In one example, Trump misrepresented the value of his Mar-a-Lago property
— claiming it was worth $400-$600 million, when an appraiser valued it
between $18-$27 million^2 — to deceive banks into higher loans and lower
interest rates.

At Friday's ruling, Trump was also barred from working any top-level
position at any New York-based company, including parts of the Trump
Organization, or receiving a loan from any New York bank for three
years.^3

Alexandria knows that we cannot push towards social and economic justice
for all without first fighting the corruption in our establishment
politics.
