John,

I know these past few weeks have been trying for all of us, and I want to thank you for working hard to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our communities.

My team of seasoned emergency management professionals continues to work around the clock to adjust to rapidly evolving Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance as the threat of COVID-19 makes its way across our nation and into our daily lives.

I just wanted to give you an update on the decisions we have made in the past week:

* I signed an Executive Order halting evictions and foreclosures during this time. Kansans are already unsure of what will happen, and this will give them some peace of mind.
* We made the difficult decision to close Kansas school building for the remainder of the school year, and move to alternative education delivery.
* We've extended unemployment eligibility and length for Kansans facing uncertainty about their jobs.
* We’ve extended driver’s license, vehicle registration, and tax deadlines to ensure Kansans are not unfairly penalized.

My administration is continuing to monitor the spread of COVID-19 in our state, and we will continue to work with Kansas legislators, local officials, and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment to make practical decisions to prevent further spread of the virus.

My team has compiled a list of links you can visit to answer any questions you may have regarding COVID-19. I urge all of you to visit the following websites to learn more about preventing the spread of COVID-19:

* The CDC's website >> [link removed]
* The Kansas Department of Health and Environment's website >> [link removed]
* The World Health Organization's (WHO) website >> [link removed]

COVID-19 has caused massive disruption in our daily lives. But as Kansans, we have always done whatever is necessary to protect our families and our communities, and this moment is no different. We will get through this, the Kansas way.

Ad astra per aspera,

Laura
