The Good News
-------------
John, we know better than anyone that the news from around the globe has not been positive this week. And we believe it's important to pay attention to that.
But we also know how important it is to stay positive and hopeful. We cannot allow cynicism to crush our spirits, which is why we're bringing you a few positive news stories from across America.
California Going Greener
------------------------
It's been a good month for California as the state opened **the nation's largest solar energy project** and witnessed the **purchase of a 3600-acre ranch to be converted into a nature preserve** with hiking trails.
The solar project came online a couple weeks ago, and is expected to power 233,000 homes through renewable energy. The project is a collaboration between the Department of Defense and many other large companies such as Samsung.
Meanwhile, the Conservation Fund has purchased Richmond Ranch for $16 million from the Chinese company Z&L Properties, who offered a steep discount for the property – which is estimated at $35 million. The project is expected to create vital habitats in an ecologically sensitive area, connecting to the Bay Area Ridge Trail.
IRS Cracks Down on Millionaires
-------------------------------
In spite of doubts about increased funding for the IRS, the tax collection agency says they have collected nearly half a million dollars – **$482 million** – from wealthy tax cheats last year.
These funds were sourced from 1,600 millionaires, and the agency states that they intend to be**even more ambitious in 2024**.
Chicago Latest U.S. City to Support Ceasefire
---------------------------------------------
Chicago is the latest U.S. city to call for ceasefire in the Israeli-Palestine war, along with **calling for humanitarian aid and the release of captives**. America's third largest city voted narrowly (24-23) to approve the resolution as the war reaches in four month mark.
