It's been a good month for California as the state opened the nation's largest solar energy project and witnessed the purchase of a 3600-acre ranch to be converted into a nature preserve with hiking trails. The solar project came online a couple weeks ago, and is expected to power 233,000 homes through renewable energy. The project is a collaboration between the Department of Defense and many other large companies such as Samsung. Meanwhile, the Conservation Fund has purchased Richmond Ranch for $16 million from the Chinese company Z&L Properties, who offered a steep discount for the property – which is estimated at $35 million. The project is expected to create vital habitats in an ecologically sensitive area, connecting to the Bay Area Ridge Trail. |
