Message from National NOW President Christian F. Nunes

Greetings Feminists,

In 2024, we cannot celebrate the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade on Monday, January 22, instead, we find ourselves acknowledging Year Two in the post-Roe era and witnessing countless attacks on bodily autonomy. The Dobbs decision by the Supreme Court stripped women of their constitutional right to abortion care, demanding an intensifying of our efforts to fight harder, stronger, and together to protect every person needing abortion care.

The wave of extreme actions at the state level, within the courts, and at the ballot box, all aimed at further oppressing the autonomy, privacy, and access to healthcare that everyday women and voters rely on. The extremists are working hard with every strategy to gain control and resort back to the days when we were property.

However, we refuse to look back; instead, we look forward. We look to the women whose shoulders we stand on, those who have and continue to pave paths of resilience and determination…understanding there is no other way.

Every day women and voters across the nation are gearing up every day until the November election, committed to restoring the federal right to abortion and rolling back the tide of extremist laws in the states. The radical elements seeking more control over your lives do not intimidate us. I am looking forward to working with all of you as we remind everyone just how strong and determined we are…bans off our bodies.
In solidarity,
Christian

Nicci discusses the barriers that women face in media and entertainment, even after the SAG-AFTRA strike, and she shares the secret to breaking down those barriers—women-led ownership.

Grammy-nominated Nicci Gilbert-Daniels has been a leader in the entertainment industry for over 20 years, and received the 2018 “Woman of Impact” award from BET. She is the CEO of WIRF Media (Women in Reality Film), a media company which works to change toxic film narratives about minority women. She’s also the founder of the non-profit From The Bottom Up Foundation, which works to reduce inequalities and raise awareness of issues facing women and girls of color.
