WG Economy: White House Retools Economic Message
As Inflation Simmers
WG Economy | David Winston
January 17, 2024
The latest CPI report for December showed a result that has complicated the
narrative that inflation has been conquered. The result of 3.4%
year-over-year rate shows inflation has been stickier than some anticipated
- not getting significantly worse but not better either. As we pointed out
in our end-of-the-year inflation analysis video, the last six inflation
reports of 2023 had shown a plateau at or above 3%. The latest report now
puts that count at seven months in a row. [7]WG Economy, January 17,

From last night's Iowa entrance/exit poll interviews (not final), here are
a few numbers that jumped out to us:
1.) The most important issues were the economy (38%) and immigration (34%).
Both of those issues were the strong suits for Trump (Trump won 52% of
economy voters; he won 64% of immigration voters). Foreign policy (12%) and
abortion (11%) came in a second tier of importance. Foreign policy was the
strongest suit for Haley, who won 45% of these voters; abortion was the
strongest issue for DeSanti, who won 46% of this group. [8]WG Discussion
