100 Days in Captivity for Hostages Held by Hamas

This week, we marked 100 days since October 7. That’s 100 days in which so many families have been desperately advocating for the release of their loved ones who continue to be held hostage by Hamas in the wake of the deadliest attack on the Jewish people since the Holocaust. Join us in calling to #BringThemHomeNow.

Every day since Oct. 7, Rachel Goldberg-Polin has worn a piece of tape showing the number of days her son Hersch has been held hostage in Gaza after being abducted by Hamas terrorists. This week,

What’s News

Hamas in Its Own Words: The massacre by Hamas on October 7 was followed by a propaganda and disinformation campaign. It is paramount to remember the worldview of Hamas, which since its founding has been promoting rhetoric and policies aimed at destroying the Jewish state of Israel and killing Jews and Israelis around the world. ADL has assembled examples of hateful rhetoric by Hamas leaders and officials, as well as language from their charter.

How Extremists Traffic $ through Cryptocurrency: A new study from the ADL Center on Extremism found that white supremacists, antisemites and their supporters have used mainstream cryptocurrency exchanges to move money. Cryptocurrency is attractive to them due to its perceived resilience to deplatforming, its pseudonymous nature and separation from the so-called “Jewish-controlled” financial system. ADL will be reaching out to each of the cryptocurrency companies mentioned in the report with our recommendations for disrupting this funding option for extremists.

News of Tunnel Under Chabad HQ Sparks Antisemitism: Age-old antisemitic conspiracy theories ran rampant on social media after the story of clashes at the Chabad Lubavitch World Headquarters in Brooklyn broke out, with hate-filled rhetoric percolating in both extremist and mainstream spaces and across the ideological spectrum. These antisemitic tropes have motivated violence against Jews for centuries.

Take Action Today

Make your voice heard by calling on your Members of Congress to Pass the Holocaust Education and Antisemitism Lessons (HEAL) Act. An ADL report found that individuals who participate in Holocaust education are less likely to believe anti-Jewish tropes. At this time of increased antisemitic incidents and antisemitic attitudes, we must make sure effective Holocaust education is being offered to every student across the United States.

@ADL

Since October 7th, we have urged the media to report fairly, verify information, and be deeply skeptical of official statements from Hamas. In this incredibly tense environment, misreporting further inflames extremists, which can mean life or death for Jewish communities.

It was an honor to march with @OfficialMLK3 and @ArndreaKing on the 60th Anniversary of the March on Washington this past August. As we commemorate MLK day, I reflect on Dr. King’s legacy and how we can continue to use service as a catalyst for a more just and inclusive society.

Last week, we joined @Conf_of_Pres & other organizations in writing to @SecBlinken to thank the US for speaking out against the outrageous charge of genocide against Israel and urging him to mobilize foreign leaders to do the same.
