A weekly wrap of ADL’s reports, updates and analysis on antisemitism around the world.

This Week’s Topline

100 Days in Captivity for Hostages Held by Hamas

This week, we marked 100 days since October 7. That’s 100 days in which so many families have been desperately advocating for the release of their loved ones who continue to be held hostage by Hamas in the wake of the deadliest attack on the Jewish people since the Holocaust. Join us in calling to #BringThemHomeNow.

Every day since Oct. 7, Rachel Goldberg-Polin has worn a piece of tape showing the number of days her son Hersch has been held hostage in Gaza after being abducted by Hamas terrorists. This week, members of ADL’s staff joined her in wearing these numbers to share our love and support with Rachel and other family members of the hostages. #BringThemHomeNow

What’s News

Hamas in Its Own Words: The massacre by Hamas on October 7 was followed by a propaganda and disinformation campaign. It is paramount to remember the worldview of Hamas, which since its founding has been promoting rhetoric and policies aimed at destroying the Jewish state of Israel and killing Jews and Israelis around the world. ADL has assembled examples of hateful rhetoric by Hamas leaders and officials, as well as language from their charter.

How Extremists Traffic $ through Cryptocurrency: A new study from the ADL Center on Extremism found that white supremacists, antisemites and their supporters have used mainstream cryptocurrency exchanges to move money. Cryptocurrency is attractive to them due to its perceived resilience to deplatforming, its pseudonymous nature and separation from the so-called “Jewish-controlled” financial system. ADL will be reaching out to each of the cryptocurrency companies mentioned in the report with our recommendations for disrupting this funding option for extremists.
Read the new ADL report. You can read USA TODAY’s article, “Crypto’s Nazi problem: With few rules to stop them, white supremacists fundraise for hate,” for more insights.

News of Tunnel Under Chabad HQ Sparks Antisemitism: Age-old antisemitic conspiracy theories ran rampant on social media after the story of clashes at the Chabad Lubavitch World Headquarters in Brooklyn broke out, with hate-filled rhetoric percolating in both extremist and mainstream spaces and across the ideological spectrum. These antisemitic tropes have motivated violence against Jews for centuries.
Read this new ADL backgrounder to understand how this news coverage became an excuse for extremists to resurface antisemitic tropes that have motivated violence against Jews for centuries.

Challenging Antisemitism in the Workplace: Unchecked antisemitism and bias in the workplace affect employees and can lead to a work culture that normalizes hate. With antisemitism on the rise, it is time for workplaces to join the fight against hatred. Our Workplace hub has added a series of new resources under the ‘What You Can Do’ heading that give you the guidance and tools to bring your concerns to your workplace, to take personal action to create an inclusive environment and to report incidents and hateful online content. This work towards a better workplace is one way ADL is supporting the whole-of-society National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism.

Embrace a Shabbat of Love: The ADL community is invited to take part this weekend in a Shabbat of Love to counter hate by embracing the Jewish people, to spread love for who we are and to make more Jewish-positive spaces during one of the hardest times in our history. This initiative encourages people of all ages, backgrounds and affiliations to come together to experience Shabbat and to center Jewish pride and joy and to spread light and love for who we are.

Take Action Today

Make your voice heard by calling on your Members of Congress to Pass the Holocaust Education and Antisemitism Lessons (HEAL) Act. An ADL report found that individuals who participate in Holocaust education are less likely to believe anti-Jewish tropes. At this time of increased antisemitic incidents and antisemitic attitudes, we must make sure effective Holocaust education is being offered to every student across the United States. Click here to join ADL in urging your Members of Congress to cosponsor the HEAL Act, to ensure the maximum reach and impact of Holocaust education.
