Tobacco use among Hispanic and Latino Americans ([link removed])

Individuals who are Hispanic or Latino comprise 19.1% (63.7 million) of the U.S. population, according to the 2022 Census. While the latest data on smoking prevalence among adults indicate that 7.7% of Hispanic adults in 2021 smoked cigarettes — lower than the national prevalence of 11.5% — studies have shown smoking prevalence varies significantly between subgroups from specific countries or regions. Majority of U.S. adults support the removal of menthol cigarettes, including many menthol smokers ([link removed])

CDC data collected in 2021 shows that most U.S. adults (62.3%) support policies to eliminate menthol cigarettes, the last remaining flavored cigarette still sold in the U.S. that has long been marketed to Black Americans with predatory tobacco industry tactics. In addition, 57.3% of survey participants supported a policy prohibiting the sale of all tobacco products.

Hawaii County, Hawaii - The county council passed a bill which prohibits the sale of all flavored tobacco products in Hawaii County if and when a state law that preempts localities from regulating or restricting the sale and use of tobacco products is overturned or suspended.

Vermont - SB18 would prohibit the sale of all flavored tobacco products. The bill passed in the Senate last year and will now be considered in the House.
