We have some good news today, John! 🎉
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit issued an opinion that blocks HB 900 from implementation — a huge win for Texas students' freedom to read!
HB 900 is a controversial law that sought to completely ban or restrict materials in public school libraries by creating a vague and undefined rating system. The 5th Circuit initially allowed it to take effect in September 2023, enabling far-right extremists to use it to target the stories of our LGBTQIA+ community and other marginalized groups.
“Our kids deserve the freedom to read. ... While we were deeply disheartened that the 5th Circuit previously allowed this unconstitutional law to go into effect knowing that it violates the rights of Texas kids and their families, justice has finally been served .” - TFN Organizing Director Seneca Savoie (he/him) [link removed] [[link removed]]

Children should be able to read about and learn from the diverse histories and cultures that make up our state without interference from extremist politicians. TFN will continue to show up, hold state leaders accountable, and ensure schools can #TeachTheTruth. Will you join us?
