Happy New Year!

This week, students bundled up and headed back to class to start the second semester of the school year. We know that so many of our students were thrilled to return to safe, supportive spaces staffed with caring adults, a fact confirmed to me in a conversation with some remarkable high school students this week during a school visit.

Statewide, the governor shared his budget proposal for next year, which–despite a huge overall deficit–generally maintains support for public schools. We will continue to push to ensure that our students continue to benefit from the resources they need.

This week, my team and I were thrilled to visit Fairfax High, Whitman High, and Open Charter Magnet students with LAUSD Superintendent Carvalho, as well as the inaugural LAUSD Health Collaborative to discuss improving students’ healthcare outcomes.
In the Spotlight: Giving thanks for one of our hardworking SAA workers!

We are thankful for the hard work of all our school employees, including West Hollywood Elementary School's Administrative Assistant, Ovsanna Petrosyan! She is originally from Damascus, Syria and lived in Russia for 15 years before moving to the United States with her family in 1991. She graduated from Los Angeles City College with her AA degree and has been working at LAUSD for 27 years! When Ovsanna is not working she loves to read, cook and travel. Thank you for all you do Ovsanna!
