The Beginning of the 2024 Legislative Session Friends and Constituents, On Wednesday, I was proud to be sworn in to serve the Commonwealth of Virginia. These bills focus on keeping us safe, fighting for Virginia’s future, and making a Virginia that works for all. Below is a brief rundown of my bills. 2024 Legislative Rundown Keeping us Safe Senator Saddam Salim is a firm advocate for gun violence prevention measures, making it the top issue of his campaign. That’s why this session, the Senator's office is introducing multiple bills addressing guns and public safety. In addition, Senator Salim is the Chief Co-Patron for SB-2 - The Virginia Assault Weapons Ban with Senator Deeds. Senator Salim’s GVP Bills: SB 57 - Prohibiting Concealed Firearms in Establishments that Serve Alcohol SB 55 - 3 Day Mandatory Waiting Period for Gun Purchases SB 327 - Raising the Minimum Firearm Purchase Age to 21 SB 319 - Bans those Convicted of Assault Against a Dating Partner from Possessing a Firearm SB 338 - Creating a JLARC Study on the Effects of Gun Violence In addition, Senator Salim is proud to be co-patroning HB 158 - Requirements for Firearm Locking Devices Fighting for Virginia’s Future When Senator Salim announced his run for office one year ago, he proudly announced that he was running to look out for Virginia’s future. This year, the Senator will introduce bills to protect our environment and create a better Virginia. SB 305 - Allowing Local Regulation of Gas Powered Leaf Blowers SB 306 - Requiring Labeling of Invasive Plants for Sale SB 316 - Town of Vienna Tree Ordinance In addition, Senator Salim will be introducing budget amendments to fight for our environment, including Electric Vehicle credits and to mitigate invasive plants. In addition, the Senator will fight to ensure that Metro is fully funded. A Virginia that Works for All Senator Salim is committed to ensure that we keep working to make Virginia a more equitable place. The Senator will be introducing bills to lift up every Virginian and make it a more affordable place to live. SB 21 - Standardizes Disability Accommodation Procedures in Virginia Institutions of Higher Education SB 304 - Allows the Building of ADU's SB 312 - Creates an Office in the Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services to Oversee Independent Living Facilities SB 334 - Prohibits Plea Deals that Waive a Person’s 4th Amendment Rights SB 333 & SB 335 - Ensures that People Suffering from Cancer can Access Fertility Treatments on their Health Insurance 333 / 335 Other Bills SB 340 - Prohibits the redaction of a public employee's name from a purchase/credit/debit card statement  SB 315 - Allows the DMV to Automatically Update Voter Registrations See The Full List of Senator Salim’s Bills at: [link removed] I have already been hard at work meeting and listening to constituents and groups from around the Commonwealth. Finally, I was excited to receive my committee assignments this week. I will be serving on the Courts of Justice Committee, the Rehabilitation and Social Services Committee, the Agriculture, Conservation, and Natural Resources Committee, and the Privileges and Elections Committee.
