Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season. It has already been a busy start to 2024, and CRES has hit the ground running. Last week, I joined Miss America 2023 Grace Stanke in authoring an op-ed ([link removed]) reflecting on a resounding agreement from COP28 late last year: Nuclear energy is the key to a clean future. As Congress returns, CRES will work to ensure—between the looming deadlines, funding priorities, and other business—lawmakers continue to prioritize the advancement of clean, low-carbon energy technologies and support American innovation.

Other news you may have heard: CRES Clean Energy Champion and Conservative Climate Caucus Chairman John Curtis (R-Utah) is running for Utah’s open seat in the U.S. Senate. CRES was proud to be one of the first organizations to endorse ([link removed]) him, and I believe his election to the Senate will not only benefit the people of Utah but will serve as a catalyst for conservative climate politics.

Rep. Curtis stated ([link removed]) his climate message has proven successful in his R+13, traditionally coal, oil, and gas-producing district because it doesn’t alienate conservatives. He believes – and I agree – his stance on climate will make him more competitive in a state like Utah, which values stewardship of our lands and our environment. Rep. Curtis’ message is one that has echoed throughout the halls of Congress since the founding of the Conservative Climate Caucus – and one that CRES has long believed in: Republicans care about leaving our planet better than we found it, and we have the solutions to address climate change that balance environmental protection and economic prosperity.

I am optimistic that this theme will ring through the 2024 elections and beyond. With the Iowa caucuses around the corner, November will be here sooner than we know it. I am looking forward to working with Republicans to ensure that voters across the country know conservatives are at the table—with effective climate solutions—and we are here to stay.
