Message from National NOW President Christian F. Nunes

Greetings Feminists,

Happy New Year! As we welcome the dawn of 2024, I am filled with immense pride for the strides we have taken in the name of women's rights. This past year has seen us diligently advocating on Capitol Hill, getting out the vote on crucial races across the nation, and unwaveringly defending reproductive rights and justice.

Looking ahead, the upcoming elections in 2024 are poised to be a pivotal battleground for women's rights and liberties, marking this election, the first presidential election since the Dobbs decision. Everything is on the line. On November 7th, our collective voice resonated in Ohio, Kentucky, and Virginia, showcasing our grassroots power to secure electoral victories that safeguard our freedom and autonomy.

NOW has always and will remain to be a beacon of resilience throughout the decades, mobilizing to ensure our nation aligns with the principles of equality and justice. NOW's legacy of advocacy is a testament to the power of collective action, and as we enter the new year, we do so with determination and solidarity.

As we embark on this crucial year for women's rights, NOW calls on every one of you to actively engage in legislative advocacy. It is imperative that we strengthen our fight for reproductive freedom, bodily autonomy, gender equality under the law, racial justice, and the very essence of our democracy we hold so dear.

In solidarity,
Christian

NOW in the News

• As 2023 comes to a close, we are reflecting on how far we’ve come in the fight for reproductive justice, and how far we still have to go to achieve a freer future in which every person has access to the health care they need. On this week’s episode of Feminism NOW, Christian F. Nunes speaks with two fierce advocates in the ongoing movement for reproductive rights. Nancy Davis is an activist and leader whose personal experience of being denied an abortion in Louisiana inspired her to create the Nancy Davis Foundation [ [link removed] ] to support individuals who face barriers to accessing the reproductive healthcare and resources they deserve. Nancy talks about the power of personal stories in transforming policy and shares what reproductive freedom looks like to her. Alexis McGill Johnson is president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Action Fund and Planned Parenthood Federation of America [ [link removed] ] . Alexis discusses how Planned Parenthood is working to “build Roe back better” and to create lasting infrastructure to support reproductive health care across the nation, especially in states where abortion access is restricted or banned. In an empowering conversation, Nancy and Alexis remind listeners how important it is to keep reproductive rights at the forefront of conversations about justice and equity as we move into a new year.
