Our generous donor community has helped us reach

[ [link removed] ]Kadeem* (*name changed for security) waters vegetables in the
fields near his family’s home. Mercy Corps installed solar panels at
the water plant in his town in Syria last year, providing a dependable
source of power. Before the solar installation, the water system ran
electrically, which was a challenge because electricity was only
available for 2-4 hours per day, which wasn't long enough to pump
water to the entire village. Now, with the solar panels, water is
available almost all the time and families are able to grow small
gardens.

[ [link removed] ]Growing food in Nepal
[ [link removed] ]Rana and his wife, Parvati, live high above the Karnali River
Basin in Nepal. Rana works as support staff at the community school at
the bottom of the valley and took up farming to help support his
family. "Without farming, my family will not have enough to eat," he
says. Still, climate change has made rainfall scarce, threatening his
farm productivity. Mercy Corps installed a spring-fed water tank near
his home, ensuring his family has enough to eat even during the dry
season.

[ [link removed] ]Protecting livelihoods in Guatemala
[ [link removed] ]Francisco provides for his wife and two children by farming
cardamom in Guatemala. Recently, temperature spikes caused by climate
change have threatened cardamom crops in the area, which are the main
source of income for the majority of the population. "Cardamom is the
only income we have," Francisco says. "We don’t know what we will do
if we don’t have the cardamom." So he attended a training by Mercy
Corps on farming practices that help improve climate resilience, such
as understanding the changes in soil pH levels, fertilizer, and
growing trees for shade that’s critical to cardamom’s growth. The new
techniques help to protect his livelihood and the livelihoods of the
20-25 community members he employs during high season.
Right now, humanitarian need is at a historic high as families around the
globe face extreme challenges — conflict, climate change, and poverty —
and we all must do our part to show up to meet the moment.
A group of generous donors has contributed $142,000 to our Matching Gift
Challenge Fund to encourage generous people like you to match their gifts.
