MATCHING GIFT CHALLENGE
Help deliver clean water, provide farming support, grow families’ income, and so much more!

A group of generous donors has contributed $142,000 to our Matching Gift Challenge Fund to encourage our community of supporters to match their gifts. Your gift today, together with theirs, will help us go 2X as far to support families in need around the world this giving season — make your tax-deductible gift by credit card, PayPal, Google Pay, or Apple Pay today.

Our generous donor community has helped us reach nearly 30 million people in more than 40 countries. With your support, we’ve improved access to clean water and healthy food, created economic opportunities, and responded to emergencies in Ukraine, Syria, and other countries around the world. Take a look at our work in action:

Clean water in Syria

Kadeem* (*name changed for security) waters vegetables in the fields near his family’s home. Mercy Corps installed solar panels at the water plant in his town in Syria last year, providing a dependable source of power. Before the solar installation, the water system ran electrically, which was a challenge because electricity was only available for 2-4 hours per day, which wasn't long enough to pump water to the entire village. Now, with the solar panels, water is available almost all the time and families are able to grow small gardens.

Growing food in Nepal

Rana and his wife, Parvati, live high above the Karnali River Basin in Nepal. Rana works as support staff at the community school at the bottom of the valley and took up farming to help support his family. "Without farming, my family will not have enough to eat," he says. Still, climate change has made rainfall scarce, threatening his farm productivity. Mercy Corps installed a spring-fed water tank near his home, ensuring his family has enough to eat even during the dry season.

Protecting livelihoods in Guatemala

Francisco provides for his wife and two children by farming cardamom in Guatemala. Recently, temperature spikes caused by climate change have threatened cardamom crops in the area, which are the main source of income for the majority of the population. "Cardamom is the only income we have," Francisco says. "We don’t know what we will do if we don’t have the cardamom." So he attended a training by Mercy Corps on farming practices that help improve climate resilience, such as understanding the changes in soil pH levels, fertilizer, and growing trees for shade that’s critical to cardamom’s growth. The new techniques help to protect his livelihood and the livelihoods of the 20-25 community members he employs during high season.

Right now, humanitarian need is at a historic high as families around the globe face extreme challenges — conflict, climate change, and poverty — and we all must do our part to show up to meet the moment.
