Friend,
As the number of coronavirus cases grow, so does the amount of information out there about the virus. It's important to stay educated -- I'm here to make sure you have all the information to keep yourself and your loved ones safe and healthy during this time.
The 2019 Novel Coronavirus, or COVID-19, is a strain that has not been previously seen in humans, and can be spread from person to person.
Symptoms take anywhere from two days to two weeks to show up after exposure to the virus. Though most people have mild cases, symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. If your symptoms are severe, get medical attention immediately. Severe symptoms include: difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, chest pressure or pain, and confusion.
Take care to protect those most at risk, including older adults and people who have serious chronic medical conditions such as heart disease, diabetes or lung disease.
As of March 2020, the United States Health Department recommends that you take the following precautions to slow the spread of COVID-19:
- Stay home when you're sick, and avoid close contact with those who are sick.
- Cover your nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing.
- Wash your hands often for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if you can't wash.
- Keep unwashed hands away from your face.
- Don't shake or touch hands with others.
- You don't need a facemask if you're well -- save them for medical professionals and those who show symptoms.
If you think you have been exposed to COVID-19 and develop a fever and symptoms, call your healthcare provider for medical advice or call the CDC at 800-232-4636.
I'm fighting to help the most vulnerable among us. Take care of yourself, and take care of others.
Best,
Nydia
