Message from National NOW President Christian F. Nunes

Greetings Feminists,

Even though having full bodily autonomy is a right that all women should be able to enjoy, the United Nations Population Fund [ [link removed] ] reports that roughly half of all women lack the ability to make choices about their own bodies freely. Not only is bodily autonomy a human right, but it is also the foundation upon which other human rights are built.

It's a slippery slope when courts and elected officials attempt to control and legislate our lifestyles. Our bodies are our own. And we deserve the freedom to exercise agency and choice in our own lives. Especially when that freedom directly feeds into other areas of life. Natalia Kanem, executive director of the United Nations Population Fund, said it best when she stated [ [link removed] ], "A woman who has control over her body is more likely to have power in other spheres of her life."

This is not just a domestic issue but a global one. Reproductive rights and justice go past abortion access and extend to complete and total ownership of oneself. Everyone should feel empowered to make decisions about their own life. NOW will continue to be on the frontlines until that is accomplished.
