"The house filled with water. We had no clothes, no food, and we could not
stay."

Alla recalls the day her neighbors helped her and her sons escape from her
home as water rushed in. Her home along the Dnipro River in Ukraine
flooded after the destruction of the Nova Kakhovka dam in June.

When the dam was destroyed, Mercy Corps immediately mobilized our team and
partners to help displaced families find shelter in schools, hospitals,
and train stations. Within days, we were distributing ready-to-eat food
kits to evacuation shelters in the region and began registering households
for emergency cash.

When
emergencies strike, Mercy Corps takes action quickly to provide relief in
places where it is needed urgently. A group of generous donors has
contributed $142,000 to our Matching Gift Challenge Fund to inspire others
to give, and when your matching gift is combined with theirs, together you
will help us go TWICE as far for communities in crisis.

A Mercy Corps team member registers Alla and her family for cash
assistance after evacuating their flooded home.

Alla and her sons arrived at a Mercy Corps-supported shelter with no
belongings, having relied only on the kindness of other families to help
them after evacuating their home. Mercy Corps and our partner organization
provided cash assistance to help Alla’s family and other families
displaced by the flood purchase the basic essentials.

"I need everything. I have nothing," Alla said. "This region is
destroyed."

The
compassion and generosity of people like you make a life-changing impact
for families confronting conflict and climate change — families like
Alla’s who have been left with nothing when disaster strikes.
