"The house filled with water. We had no clothes, no food, and we could not stay." Alla recalls the day her neighbors helped her and her sons escape from her home as water rushed in. Her home along the Dnipro River in Ukraine flooded after the destruction of the Nova Kakhovka dam in June. When the dam was destroyed, Mercy Corps immediately mobilized our team and partners to help displaced families find shelter in schools, hospitals, and train stations. Within days, we were distributing ready-to-eat food kits to evacuation shelters in the region and began registering households for emergency cash. When emergencies strike, Mercy Corps takes action quickly to provide relief in places where it is needed urgently.
