Dear Comrades,

I hope that you are all continuing to stay healthy and sane as this crisis deepens. We on the newly-formed DSA Santa Fe OC are doing our best to do the same while joining organizing efforts in Santa Fe. We wanted to let you know about a few things going on nationally and locally so you can get involved and help yourself and others.

Santa Fe Mutual Aid, YUCCA, Red Nation, Earthcare, and DSA Santa Fe will be on a call today to determine how best to consolidate our efforts. I'm sure many of you have already seen YUCCA's press release about the virus-- if not, check it out here ([link removed]) ! Santa Fe Mutual Aid has also created a form ([link removed]) , being circulated all around orgs in Santa Fe. We will have more updates about our consolidated efforts later today.

On a national level, David and Helen were on a call yesterday with the DSA National COVID-19 Rapid Response Committee. This was a call for DSA leadership across the country. We’re happy to report that nearly 250 DSA leaders joined us on the call. They wanted us to let our membership know about a MASSIVE call for all DSA members happening on Thursday at 6:30 PM Mountain Time. More information about this will be sent to you from National. They really want as many people as possible to be on this call! We urge you all to join, if your time and internet access allow.

Additionally, there is a collaborative document ([link removed]) being put together by DSA chapters across the country to help chapters learn from one another. Check that out here ([link removed]) and feel free to make comments as you feel necessary!

DSA National has created a petition for a working class solution to the COVID-19 crisis

Please signthe petition here ([link removed]) .

An update from the front lines of calling for eviction/foreclosure freezes-- many of you have been calling! Thank you! We are now being bounced around from the Mayor's Office to the County to the Sheriff to the Governor to various non-functional hotlines... Keep it up! Keep calling, and if they don't give you a satisfactory answer, call again. We are told that the mayor went into an Executive Session today at 12PM so we will know more later this afternoon.

Hello, my name is Name and I live in City/County .

I am a resident of New Mexico/Santa Fe and I am calling to demand that Gov. Lujan Grisham/Mayor Webber put a STOP to all evictions AND foreclosures during this state of emergency.

Countless New Mexicans face lost wages as a result of the COVID-19 public health crisis. Many of us work without paid sick leave. Having to pay rent or a mortgage for fear of losing their homes only compounds the issues facing New Mexicans and keeps us living in fear.

Furthermore, an eviction during this state of emergency is a serious risk to a person’s health. Without a place to wash their hands, sleep safely, rest, recuperate, people are much more likely either to contract a serious case of coronavirus OR to spread the virus to those around them. Shutting down evictions protects the people’s health.

I, and my fellow New Mexicans, are demanding the governor/mayor to shut down evictions immediately.

Thank you for your time.

Camilo, Organizer-At-Large and Physician in Santa Fe, updated us with the new parameters for testing in New Mexico. As of now, the DOH is testing anyone who is having lower respiratory symptoms. If you are having lower respiratory symptoms (distinct from allergies or the common cold) you can seek testing. The hotline for the DOH in New Mexico is 855-600-3453. Testing is being offered currently in Santa Fe at any medical facility with at 1-3 day turnaround. There is also drive-thru testing in Albuquerque at Lovelace parking lot on Martin Luther King downtown (closed Monday), PresNow at 4515 Coors Boulevard NW, and Optum New Mexico Urgent Care at 5150 Journal Center Blvd NE.

The Governor’s office is expanding child care eligibility for families across New Mexico. To check on YOUR eligibility, call 1-800-691-9067. For full details, visit: [link removed]
* Special priority placed on families of first responders and health professionals. Call 1-833-551-0518.
* The Family, friends, and neighbors (FFN) program allows the delivery paid child care services through family networks and is being expanded in the emergency. In light of child center closures, New Mexicans are urged to sign up to provide child care through. Interested persons must pass a background check (also being expedited by the state). Call 1-833-551-0518.
