Colorado Supreme Court Rules Trump Ineligible To Hold Office of President ([link removed])

Here are some recent updates.
* The U.S. Department of Justice submitted a brief ([link removed]) defending Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act in a lawsuit challenging Louisiana's legislative districts. GOP state officials are alleging that the statute violates the U.S. Constitution. Learn more about the case here ([link removed]) .
* Tom Crosby and Peggy Judd — supervisors of Cochise County, Arizona — pleaded ([link removed]) not guilty to felony charges of interference with an election officer and conspiracy after refusing to certify the county's election results in 2022.
* Special Counsel Jack Smith's cert petition — asking the U.S. Supreme Court to decide whether former President Donald Trump has presidential immunity from prosecution related to Jan. 6 — is fully briefed. Now the Supreme Court will decide whether they'll take the case.
+ Among the briefs is an amicus brief ([link removed]) from 19 Republican attorneys general in support of Trump who say that the Court should not expedite consideration of this case.

Here’s what’s coming up.
* The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals denied ([link removed]) North Dakota lawmakers' request to extend the deadline to redraw legislative districts to February. Tomorrow’s Dec. 22 deadline remains in effect.
+ Lawmakers adjourned yesterday without selecting a new map, making it unlikely for them to meet the deadline.
* Trump has until Jan. 4, 2024 to appeal the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision kicking him off the primary ballot to the U.S. Supreme Court.
