Will's Survivorship Journey with Livestrong
Will's journey as a lymphoma survivor is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. After treatment, he faced the challenges of life beyond cancer. This is where Livestrong stepped in, providing Will with invaluable information and education to help him navigate the complexities of survivorship. "I was participating in a Livestrong Day in Washington, DC when I connected with one of the speakers who gave me the knowledge about the long term side effects I could expect," Will said.
One of those side effects was the potential for heart disease 20-30 years after radiation treatment. At every annual physical, Will encouraged his doctors to test for heart conditions he'd learned about through this Livestrong connection. This testing led to a diagnosis of an extremely constrained heart valve. "I was asymptomatic, so without the pestering of my GP, I might still not be diagnosed," he said. Will credits his experience with Livestrong for helping him catch this dangerous condition early.
