Will's Survivorship Journey with Livestrong
Will's journey as a lymphoma survivor is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. After treatment, he faced the challenges of life beyond cancer. "I was participating in a Livestrong Day in Washington, DC when I connected with one of the speakers who gave me the knowledge about the long term side effects I could expect," Will said.
One of those side effects was the potential for heart disease 20-30 years after radiation treatment. At every annual physical, Will encouraged his doctors to test for heart conditions he'd learned about through this Livestrong connection. This testing led to a diagnosis of an extremely constrained heart valve. "I was asymptomatic, so without the pestering of my GP, I might still not be diagnosed," he said. Will credits his experience with Livestrong for helping him catch this dangerous condition early.
